ETHAN PRYOR WESCOTT was born in New Jersey in to John W. and Frances Oatman Wescott. His father, John W. Wescott, was a noted trial lawyer and judge. John W. Wescott was also known for having given both of President Woodrow Wilson's nominating addresses. One was at the Democratic Convention in Baltimore on J , and the other at the Democratic Convention in St. Louis . Her book traces the fate of a virtuous and educated English immigrant woman, Marion Wescott, who marries a Mormon elder, Henry Northfield. Shocked when her husband violates his promise not to take a second wife, Marion attempts to flee during the night, toddler son in her arms, pulling her worldly possessions in his toy wagon.
